It's hard to believe how quickly the time is passing. I've had 4 lovely weeks at home with no travel. I almost don't know what to do!
Fortunately, it's been a very nice few weeks - my college friend Alan came to visit us as part of his Northwest Road Trip of sorts. While it was his first time to the Seattle area, we avoided most of the "normal" tourist things. While I always love a trip to Pike's Place Market, Port Townsend, ferry rides, Tacoma and the hood canal are wonderful as well. We spent almost an entire day driving up the east side of the olympic peninsula - stopping along the way so Al, the amazingly talented photographer, could take bunches of photos. Very fun to watch him work! We also managed to hit not one, but TWO of the amazing cupcake bakeries here in the area - Trophy Cupcakes in wallingford and Hello, Cupcake in Tacoma. Mmmmm.
So, there hasn't been too much going on here. I've sort of settled into my new job as the Submarine Program Office PEPM. It's a completely different world for a multitude of reasons, and my mind just spins sometimes. Our shipyard received the Meritorious Unit Commendation for the work on the GW this summer as a result of the fire - we had VADM McCoy, Deputy Pac Fleet and a host of others out there to do the ceremony. It was a neat day...
I'm on two weeks of must leave right now. Sadly, Joe's on travel the first week of December, so we really couldn't figure out anything to go do. Oh well - we have lots of stuff planned for next year, so hanging out with the critters will be quite nice.
