Kita-Kamakura Hike

I had been reading a few things about hiking around our areas and one of the easier hikes that stiod out was the Kita-Kamakura to Daibutsu hike...around 5k or less, this seemed to be the ideal walk for our family.  I consulted a map from a random website (below), got directions from lonely planet and off we went!

We started in Kita-Kamakura and Logan wanted to start with a picture at the first shrine....

The trail was amazing.  Who knows how old it is, but it was well traveled, excellently marked and very popular.  It was just hard enoug for Logan to do without being discouraged from the climbing.  There were a lot of roots that stuck out...a couple of them tripped the kiddo up...but he kept trekking on (sometimes with the promise of ice cream, I will admit).

We came to the main shrine on our route that was combined with a picnic stop.  It was a nice chance to explore and see all the other families out trekking away.

Turtles!

The awesome picnic area...

Finally, after a few bumpy hills, we were at the Daibutsu!  Logan was so excited to show Joe the big Buddha and walk inside him...

Logan just about refused to take a picture with me.  Little stinker.  Joe snapped some good ones of me telling him that he would not be a happy camper if he didn't get at least one pic with me...

You can see how enthusiastic he was...

We had ice cream and then...octopus cracker!!  Logan loved watching this get made between the presses...and I think he liked it too...he kept asking for more!

This was an incredible hike...I love how much Logan is growing up on this trip...it's a little amazing how we are doing all of these things that seemed so out of reach even a year ago....
