Stone Buddha and Chiba

Well, the project was finally in the test program, I was working all weekend, so Joe and Logan went off on an adventure.  The Stone Buddhas in Chiba were on my bucket list for Japan, but I had myself talked out of it because of all the stairs.  Adults were even saying how hard it was.  Thankfully, Joe chatted with one of the more adventurous folks at work, who has taken his kids almost everywhere since their family has lived here for the last 6-ish years.  Joe went on, undaunted.

The trip across to the Chiba peninsula starts with a train ride from Yokosuka, then a bus, then a ferry and then a rope way.  Whew.

Checking out the view back across the water...

And, the first of the stone Buddhas carved into the mountain at Mt. Nokogiri.

The overhang "the view from hell".  The guys enjoyed their view....

Every hike and adventure has a picnic.

The guys started their hike up and down lots of huge bumpy mountains and looked at the thousand stone Buddha. All of them were different...

Finally the Daibutsu.  This one is just about twice in height as the Daibutsu in kamakura.

Happy boy...Joe said he was amazing. No complaints, up and down stairs.

Yeah, no kidding on the watch your head part!

The guys found all the cool little nooks and crannies...waterfalls, bridges....

Taking the rope way back down, Joe said that the folks on the gondola were awesome and let Logan have a front view...

Post hike ice cream on the ferry...well earned!
